St. Joseph's National School , Halverstown is a three-teacher country school which is situated in Halverstown approximately 4 km from Kilcullen. It was built in 1949. It is a Roman Catholic school which is under the patronage of the Archbishop of the Dublin diocese.
We see St. Joseph’s N.S. as a community which welcomes and cherishes children in our care. It is the policy of the school to provide an atmosphere where the children will receive maximum benefit from the Education System by being exposed to a broad curriculum and Christian ethos.
Our three-teacher school has a junior room for junior infants, a middle room for pupils from senior infants to second class, whilst in the senior room we have third class to sixth. We also have the support of a Special Education Teacher (S.E.T).
In St. Joseph’s N.S., we recognise and value each child as an individual with different interests, talents and capabilities. We aim to help foster and develop your child’s development in all aspects of the curriculum.
We have a well-equipped school, of which we are very proud. Our School does not have a general purpose room, so during winter and spring terms, our physical education programme is carried out in other venues i.e. Kilcullen Community Centre or in the Curragh swimming pool. We have a varied wealth of P.E. equipment which we use in school on a daily basis. We have three interactive whiteboards and several laptops in each classroom, which assists in opening up the world of I.T. to each pupil.
Books and reading are a priority with us and thanks to the support of the Board of Management, parents and the Kildare School Library Service we have an excellent library. Child regularly bring home books to read and in this way, we hope to cultivate the love for reading in our children, We hold a Book Fair in the Autumn term of each year and this usually coincides with Shared Reading Scheme which promotes reading as a fun activity!.
Our School promotes an ethos of active learning. We try to enrich the children’s education by arranging visits connected with the work of the class. We endeavour to have at least one theatre trip per year. We have an annual Schools Sports Day and School Tours for the junior, middle and senior classes.
